The quarry falls in the natural "Dolorite Dyke" geological region, which Tab reports contains some of the best black granite varieties in India. "Black granite comes from these types of dykes and traditionally these dykes are not larger than 25 meters in width," stated the company.
Kunnam Granite Works was established in 1987 at Chennai, India to initially promote quarrying and export of premium black granite blocks from the legendary 'Kunnam' Village (about 150 kms from Chennai) for the Japanese monument markets.
Jubilee Granites was incorporated in 1992 as a private family owned company. With more than 100 employees now, the company is a leading exporter of dimensional dressed granite blocks from India. The reserves of the quarry of Jubilee Granites are big enough to last for another 30 to 40 years.
