Rajasthan's economy has depended mainly on agriculture since its formation in 1949. Recognizing the importance of agricultural growth and development in assuring livelihood security of its population, the government gave high priority to developing agriculture education, research and extension in the State.
The state government of Uttar Pradesh is planning to launch a new central family planning scheme named as "Mission Parivar Vikas". The central government had written to seven states including UP, Bihar, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand and Assam in November last year to implement the scheme.
The history of Agriculture in India dates back to Indus Valley Civilization Era and even before that in some parts of Southern India. Today, India ranks second worldwide in farm riculture and allied sectors like forestry and fisheries accounted for 13.7% of the GDP (gross domestic product) in 2013, about 50% of the workforce.
