A tunnel is an underground passageway, dug through the surrounding soil/earth/rock and enclosed except for entrance and exit, commonly at each end. A pipeline is not a tunnel, though some recent tunnels have used immersed tube construction techniques rather than traditional tunnel boring methods.
SLURRY SHIELD. The Slurry Shield TBM is suitable for excavating soils with high water content. This TBM is equipped with a Slurry System which controls the pressure in the excavation face by injecting pressurized slurry into the Cutter Chamber where the slurry is mixed with the excavated material.
RETC is proud to present more than 21 technical sessions featuring the leading practitioners in the tunneling industry from across the U.S. The primary focus of the technical program is to add value to the industry through examination of the most innovative practices and products currently in use.
The use of TBM (tunnel boring machine) gradually increases in worldwide tunneling projects. TBM machine are often applied to more difficult and complex geological conditions in urban area, and many problems and difficulties have been reported due to these geological conditions.
